Uruguay ratifica deseo de integrar Consejo de Seguridad de ONU

MONTEVIDEO (AP) – Uruguay confía en lograr un puesto de miembro no permanente del Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas en 2016 y para ello ya ha recogido una buena cantidad de adhesiones de América Latina y otras regiones, según indicó el jueves el canciller Pedro Vaz.
Vaz dijo a periodistas en la cancillería que “estamos planteando una aspiración” para poder integrar el Consejo en el futuro “demostrando la seriedad y lo que significa llegar a integrar el organismo”.
Según el canciller uruguayo, “podemos tener una visión optimista para esa eventualidad, porque hemos recogido un conjunto importante de apoyos, no solamente de América Latina, sino de otras regiones del mundo”.
“Lo que estamos haciendo no es sólo una campaña electoral, sino para establecer la voluntad de participar y planteando los lineamientos de cómo se va a plantear esa membresía que confiamos obtener”.
Según Vaz la aspiración de su país no es solamente ocupar un lugar en el organismo, “sino proponer un cambio en los métodos de trabajo”.
El Consejo está integrado por cinco miembros permanentes con poder de veto (China, Estados Unidos, Francia, Gran Bretaña y Rusia) y por otros 10 miembros no permanentes elegidos por la Asamblea General de la ONU por períodos de dos años.
Uruguay ya integró una vez el Consejo de Seguridad de ONU entre 1965 y 1966.
